CHAPTER FOUR

Sprawled out on the couch in Randall’s office, Rowena went over the visit with Tam in her mind. It had almost been a complete bust with the exception of one thing. In the end, Tam had ordered her to go Selena. Rowena was one of three Fates, and her sisters Selena and Katrina were much better at their jobs than she was to her way of thinking. As much as she hated the thought of running to Selena for help, she knew that Tam was right. She was the problem solver of the bunch and if anyone could come up with a plan, it was Selena.

Casting a glance around the room, she absorbed the world around her. Randall’s office was a good-sized room since he did most of his work here. A desk with a leatherback-rolling chair sat in one corner, while a lab table complete with vials and Bunsen burner sat opposite the room. The couch she currently occupied covered the wall near the door, giving her a clear view of everything, including Randall, who’d been working silently for close to an hour now.

“I have to talk to Selena,” she said before she could change her mind. “I mean it’s not as if I can hide the fact that Harper is gone, and well, I’m pretty sure that she’s going to kill me when I tell her.”

Randall tore his eyes away from the bubbling vial in front of him and blinked owlishly at her as if he’d forgotten she was there. She was positive that he’d not heard a word she’d said and she couldn’t have that.

Shelving the problem with Harper for a minute, she focused her attention on the sexy man who was cooking up some sort of spell. Drawing her knees up toward her chest, she allowed the hem of her skirt to slip until every inch of her legs was visible.

“Are you busy over there?” she asked, biting back a smile when his eyes shifted to the newly exposed skin.

“Only slightly,” he answered, no longer appearing distracted.

Reaching over her head, she gathered her hair in her hand and swept it over one shoulder. As she dropped her hand, she left it resting on her breast, and her nipples hardened to a painful point at the look of hunger that grew on his face.

With a twist of the dial, he extinguished the fire beneath the potion he was brewing. His hands went to the buttons on his lab coat, and as he popped each one, he moved in closer.

“Enough of this teasing,” he said, calling her out on her game.

Flattening her palm over her breast, she slid it down her body while holding his stare. When she reached the hem of her skirt, she gave it the tug it needed to expose her pink thong.

“What do you plan to do now?” he asked as he shrugged out of the coat and pulled his cotton t-shirt over his head. Her breathing hitched up a notch at the sight of his trim muscular body.
